Warner Bros. | A Cinderella Story (2004)

Reviewer: Rayne

Could you BELIEVE I used to think this was the worst Cinderella movie I had ever seen!?! Oh my, how I had no clue what awaited me...

Ahem. Let me explain what I mean. See, this was one of the FIRST live action Cinderella movies I saw that I didn't like...and at this point, I really hadn't seen too many...In general, the "A Cinderella Story" series by Warner Bros. is...BAD. BAD. But I had no clue what I was in for. There's seven of these in the series so far, and this is just number one! And looking back, having seen all the others, number one...really isn't the worse. Far from it. Heck, far from the worse from OTHER companies!

Sorry for the tangent...let me talk about the movie. This movie is...passable. It attempts to put a modern twist on the Cinderella tale. Cinderella is a girl in the modern age. She meets the prince via the internet, not knowing the boy she talks to online is the popular kid at her school. In order to remedy the common complaint that Cinderella didn't get to know the prince well enough before marrying him, they have him and her bond unknowingly via the internet. That's cute, I think. However...this movie is just a bit of a pain to watch. It's very unfunny, which is the BIGGEST complaint I have. All of the movies in this series focus on comedy, and they all fail very hard in that aspect...There's many confusing aspects. Mostly regarding the best friend character. I liked him much more than the actual prince character! But he gets the short stick so hard in this movie...Also, there's this whole sub-plot about Cinderella running her dead father's diner? It's very confusing...

This movie is not good, but looking back, oh boy, I would have NEVER said this was the worst Cinderella movie if I knew what was to come! :'(
