Warner Bros. | A Cinderella Story: Starstruck (2021)

Reviewer: Rayne

"A Cinderella Story: Starstruck" is the sixth and latest installment in the Cinderella Story series by Warner Bros. This movie is definitely the most memorable movie of the entire Cinderella Story lineup, however that doesn't make it good. Now, I wouldn't say this movie is BAD, it has some good parts! It's just not amazing.

The plot is strange in many ways. Basically, Cinderella wants to be an actor but can't get the role because she's a girl and the director will not hire her. So, she dresses up as a man to get the role. Just like Haruhi!! x4 no but seriously, she lives a double life as a farm girl and a male actor, and falls in love with the male star of the movie she's on. I think it's a very cute idea to have a yaoi Cinderella movie and I wish this idea was done more!! So I'm very happy the movie has that going for it, however it has many issues.

In general, it was just kind of slow to watch, and a lot of it didn't have much to do with the Cinderella property. There's this scene where she, dressed in her male persona, has to kiss her step-sister, and it was really weird. I'm all for weird yaoi/yuri in anime like the Hitachiin twins, but in live action, I think it's kind of weird, especially in Cinderella!! This is Cinderella!! It just seems wrong to have incest in Cinderella :(

The ending was very bad too. All in all, it was a strange premise that barely worked, but at least this is definitely the most memorable out of the Cinderella Story series.
